Hasidic Vow To Cause Chaos Over Bike Lane

250_sowi_8.jpg NYC's version of the Taliban, the Hasidics, are vowing to disrupt traffic to protest the new Kent Avenue bike lane. A few months ago, the Jewish sect grumbled about the Bedford and Wythe Avenue bike paths because they were offended by the attire worn by female cyclists pedaling through their ghettos. Now the kosher cult is unhappy about the removal of parking spaces and a spokesman promised that "private buses will intentionally obstruct Kent Avenue to pressure the city to remove the bike lanes and reinstate alternate-side parking." |Gothamist|

I find your deliberately inflammatory wording to be offensive, insulting, unimaginative and worse yet, ignorant.

To equate the Hasidim with the Taliban is to demonstrate a bigoted lack of understanding. The Taliban supported terrorism and were the homebase for Al-Qaeda. You remember them - they killed fellow Americans in the Twin Towers.

The Hasidim, although they do dress funny, are productive members of the American community with love and patriotism for our nation.

While the tone of this post is certainly flippant, its hard to see how serious a group, in the middle of a 10 million plus city, can be about a dress code for everyone else that happens to walk through their neighborhood. Like similar complaints from well-to-do areas about bus stops, social agencies being located in the area, or other NIMBY issues, you can file this one under ridiculous.
