Fire Island To Ban Drinking On Some Beaches

July 25, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

You have until the end of the month to get drunk on some of Long Island’s most pristine beaches. According to the AP, the feds are enacting a drinking ban at a few of Fire Island’s more exclusive villages such as Robbins Rest, Atlantique, and Corneille Estates starting August 1st to curb “alcohol-fueled parties.” In nearby Ocean Beach, where most of these alcohol-fueled parties take place, there’s already laws against public drinking, so it’s unclear how effective this new policy will be. But there’s still plenty of places to imbibe on the long stretch of barrier beaches. The National Park Service informs:

The National Park Service does not prohibit the use or possession of alcoholic beverages in public areas within Fire Island National Seashore. However, where the Seashore boundaries overlap with town boundaries, town ordinances may be enforced by other agencies.

Plan your weekend accordingly. (Photo: @joeshlabotnik)
