Watch Williamsburg Gentrify Before Your Eyes on Street View

August 7, 2013 | Andy Cush

We love the time warps Google Street View accidentally creates when it juxtaposes newly-taken photos against older ones. First, there was a bank in Bay Ridge that changed hands as you walked; then, a scene of post-Sandy devastation jutted up against suburban tranquility on Staten Island. Now, thanks to Redditor stratomaster aka photographer Michael Tapp, here’s a third: take one step and see a dilapidated, old, ca.-2007 warehouse on the Williamsburg waterfront turn shiny and new, big storage tanks torn down, and old-school graffiti give way to a legal-looking mural. Welcome to 2013.
