Smart Helmet Directs You to Nearest Citi Bike Station

With Citi Bike still in its infancy, it can be difficult to know where the closest station is to your destination, to drop off the bike when you get there. There’s an app for that, but if you prefer your technology a little more blinky and futuristic, the people at DIY electronics company Adafruit have developed a helmet that uses GPS and LED lights to direct you to the nearest dock. Those lights on the top are pretty fly too, if you don’t mind looking a little like a Tron cyclist. The best part: the smart helmet is totally do-it-yourself-able, and Adafruit has provided full instructions here.

“Just don’t run afoul of your local bike light laws,” Adafruit’s Becky Stern, who created the helmet, advises in the video above. “Or any out-of-touch members of the Wall Street Journal editorial board.
