Rodent Weed Thief Makes for Greatest Police Sketch Ever

January 28, 2013 | Andy Cush

The police department of Wichita, Kansas is still searching for a culprit in a case of missing weed from their evidence department. They have no specific suspects yet, but they’ve at least been able to narrow things down to a particular species: peromyscus maniculatus, the common mouse.

That search produced the above image, perhaps the most beautiful police composite sketch ever put to paper. “Our protocol is to make a case like we did. We take photographs, reseal it, and reweigh the evidence. It is not that uncommon. Marijuana being an organic material has a very strong odor that would attract animals such as mice,” said Lieutenant Doug Nolte of Wichita PD.

“We do have a sketch artist that came and did a rendering of who we believe is responsible for the marijuana heist, and so, we are currently looking for something that resembles a mouse like this.”
