Robert Wilson and CocoRosie’s Avant Garde ‘Peter Pan’ Is Dark,
Peep This Bootleg

“To die will be an awfully big adventure.”

Legendary weirdo, New York’s theater director Robert Wilson’s “Peter Pan” just premiered at the Berlin Ensemble. Do you want to hear what NY band CocoRosie sounds like à la Wilson? Here’s a bootleg clip of it.

It’s not quite as epically soul-crushing Wilson sugests, telling ARTinfo Germany:

…the original “Peter Pan” it’s a very cruel, dark story, very different from the Disney world. I think that “Peter Pan” is a prism of very many personas, the dark sides of the character and the lighter sides, and how they somehow support each other. This is one of the failures of the Disney “Peter Pan.” It’s too light. Only when you’re in hell do you know where heaven is.

Then again, it is a bootleg.

It’s not at all surprising that the avant garde director chose CocoRosie. He’s worked with “cool” NY music people Rufus Wainwright and Lou Reed. The CocoRosie sisters were suggested by their sometimes collaborator Anthony Hegarty of Anthony of the Johnsons. Hegarty and Wilson’s opera/collaborative project “The Life and Death of Marina Abramović” is coming to New York’s Park Avenue Armory this summer when there will be CHAOS.

The Casady sisters are a good fit — Bianca “Coco” has an art gallery, Sierra “Rosie” is a trained opera singer and they’re enchanting and child-like and weird. Also, just weird.

So, everyone cool is going to Berlin. Whatever. I’m not even mad. Sigh.
