The Making of the Times Square Harlem Shake

February 13, 2013 | Joseph Schulhoff

Last night marked an epic moment for the Harlem Shake, when two viral filmmakers shot a massive version of the Internet meme in Times Square. By spreading the word through Reddit, other websites, and social media, the duo were able to get nearly 300 people to converge on the area a little after 7:30PM. After initially posting up on the TKTS steps, they were told to move by the NYPD. The crowd then shifted to the pedestrian area directly next to it and managed to pull off two takes before cops moved in and shut it down. Thanks to the police intervention, the video has an added level of hilarious transgression. Con los terroristas.
