A Train Service Returns to the Rockaways Tomorrow

May 29, 2013 | Andy Cush

Tomorrow, seven months (nearly to the day) after Hurricane Sandy, the Rockaways will once again have a fully-functional subway, as A Train finally service returns to the area. About a month after the storm, the MTA restored partial train service to the area via a temporary “H Train” that traversed the peninsula but didn’t extend to mainland Brooklyn/Queens or beyond. According to NY1, the A train repairs “included the restoration of 1,500 feet of tracks, replacing miles of wires and rebuilding two flooded stations,” and the MTA will build a sea wall on Broad Channel to help deal with future flooding. That’s an MTA test train that ran yesterday in the photo above.
