This Cloud of Recycled Bottles Is Coming to Governors Island

February 11, 2013 | Andy Cush

As part of the 2013 FIGMENT art festival happening on Governors Island in June, architects Jason Klimoski and Lesley Chang will create a pavilion from over 53,000 plastic bottles–the number that New Yorkers throw away every hour. The structure, in both its materials and its visual style, is a slightly less elegant dead ringer for the work of Tara Donovan.

At 40’x18’x15′, the Head in the Clouds Pavilion will be large enough for people to go inside and sit, and will have a small stage for hosting performances. The designers are currently taking to Kickstarter to finish the work, and have raised $3,500 of their $9,000 goal.
