From a recent New York Post crime blotter: “Police are seeking the pranksters who posted two signs stating “Attention Drone Activity in Progress NYPD” outside two Upper West Side landmarks. The white metal signs bore red lettering look similar to those used by the Department of Transportation for legitimate signs, cops said. Surveillance cameras recorded several people hopping out of a van and attaching one sign to a pole outside the American Museum of Natural History on Central Park West near West 81st Street at 4:48 a.m. on March 19, cops added. A second sign was discovered opposite Lincoln Center Friday at around noon, cops said. Detectives from the NYPD’s Intelligence Division and Counterterrorism Bureau are investigating, cops said.” What?!?

Surely, the vandal squad would be better suited to handle this case than officers tasked with fighting terrorism. Perhaps they didn’t read the piece in the New Yorker back in January about the anonymous artist and war veteran who claimed credit—not al-Qaeda—for putting up the faux signs to protest the civilan use—like the NYPD is casually considering—of the flying robotic killers, having witnessed them in action during two tours in Iraq. I reached out to the NYPD to ask why this police unit was assigned, but as of press time, they have not responded. (Photo: wagingnonviolence)
