For a long time, an unknown artist has been leaving intricately carved-up books in art libraries, primary schools, bars and birthplaces of notable writers, sending Edinburgh on scavenger hunt. They know it’s a woman. They know she’s very literate, building complex relationships between her chosen tomes, her themes and her drop-off locations. The rest is a mystery. Her work is being toured around Europe in exhibits and the press salivates every time a new batch of art is found, like the five new sculptures recently discovered during a major book event.

As far as cut-up book sculptures go, Brian Dettmer’s is still tops, but the anonymous allure gives the work a bit more oomph. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Scotland’s Banksy. She’s crafty. (Photos: Guardian via ArtInfo)
