In addition to drills large and small, tunneling for that legendary Second Avenue subway line involves blasting. And blasting means explosives. Which go boom, I’ve heard.

Those in charge of said explosives are normally careful to keep such things under strict control, but something went awry yesterday when a huge blast rocked East 72nd Street, sending debris flying and shattering storefront windows. “Something went wrong. We don’t know what”, MTA spokesman Adam Lisberg told DNAInfo.

No one was injured, but the MTA has decided that work will not resume until the exact cause of the blast is known. Expect some delays on the T.
