Here’s an awesome video profile of East Village stalwart and ANIMAL favorite Jim Power, the homeless street artist who’s been garlanding light posts with intricate tile and mirror mosaics for several decades now. There’s archival footage of young post Vietnam tie-dye shirted Jim in this. There’s action video of Power’s recent “gangster” pole series in progress, featuring noir monochrome portraits of Al Capone, John Dillinger and Lucky Luciano. And of course, his four lagged pal.

Yes, he is still at it. Leaning on his mirror-tiled walking stick, Powers recalls the time after the riots at Tompkins Square Park, when Giuliani went on his anti-graffiti clean-up-the-city kick and had 50 of Mosaic Man’s light poles stripped. He was back at it then. He is back at it now. Respect.
