I really enjoyed your comments! I have not seen the "secret" Obama tapes, but I am so happy to hear that his "secret" approach is to humanize even his opponents. Unity can't come from hatred. Thanks.
War Criminal Vs Future War Criminal 2012
I think Obama told the truth. I've lived in many of those places, and many people there do cling to guns and religion out of fear. He was trying to get his supporters to understand why they do that, because on the left (like in all subcultures) we have a tendency to just see them as 'other' instead of people with bad ideas. It doesn't always work, but sometimes people with bad ideas can change. But we have to give them the opportunity, and yes, that means sometimes we have to educate. At least we do if we want things to improve!
much enjoyed the analysis, did not enjoy the fact that you used the word ratchet :/
Being satisfied "60% of the time" with this administration might be a tad generous, but Obama is a high-level politician trying to work in a very flawed system, so I understand the limitations. I actually think I may like Obama even more on a personal level now than I did 4 years ago. I don't know if I am just buying into election hype, or he is benefiting by comparison with a pretty poor crop of candidates that have been thrown up against him, but he seems genuinely decent and thoughtful about his job, at least some of the time. Which is more than I can say for the other candidates (I am including primary contenders here as well). Also, I have to admire his abilty to withstand, with composure and compassion, some pretty hateful crap thrown his way ever since he was elected. Again, he is benefiting by comparison, with other pols constantly blaming "the mean ol' press" for their problems, and pouting about what some celebrity said about them on some awards show. Seriously, he's got some inner peace or something.
